#ภาษาไทยใช้ "กว่า" คำเดียว — อังกฤษแบ่งตามความยาวของคำ

"สูงกว่า แพงกว่า ดีกว่า" — ไทยเติม "กว่า" ท้ายคำได้หมด อังกฤษมีสองระบบ และเลือกผิดจะได้คำที่ไม่มีจริงอย่าง expensiver

#คำสั้น (1 พยางค์): เติม -er / -est

  • tall → taller → the tallest
  • fast → faster → the fastest
  • cheap → cheaper → the cheapest

กติกาสะกดสามข้อ:

  • ลงท้าย e เติมแค่ r: nice → nicer, large → larger
  • สระเดียว+พยัญชนะท้าย ให้เบิ้ลตัวท้าย: big → bigger, hot → hotter
  • สองพยางค์ที่ลงท้าย y เปลี่ยนเป็น i: happy → happier, easy → easier

#คำยาว (2 พยางค์ขึ้นไป): more / the most

  • expensive → more expensive → the most expensive
  • beautiful → more beautiful → the most beautiful
  • interesting → more interesting → the most interesting

#คำผันพิเศษ — กลุ่มเล็กแต่ใช้บ่อยที่สุด

  • good → better → the best
  • bad → worse → the worst
  • far → farther/further → the farthest/furthest
  • little → less → the least
  • many/much → more → the most

#โครงประโยค: than คู่กับขั้นกว่า, the คู่กับขั้นสุด

  • Bangkok is bigger than Chiang Mai.
  • This is the best som tam in town. — ขั้นสุดต้องมี the เสมอ

#ข้อผิดพลาดที่คนไทยเจอบ่อย

  • ✗ more better → ✓ better — better เป็นขั้นกว่าอยู่แล้ว ห้ามซ้อน
  • ✗ gooder → ✓ better — good ผันพิเศษ
  • ✗ taller from me / taller then me → ✓ taller than me
  • ✗ She is the taller in the class. → ✓ the tallest — เทียบกับทั้งกลุ่มต้องขั้นสุด
  • ✗ more easier → ✓ easier

#โบนัส: เท่ากันใช้ as ... as

  • This phone is as expensive as that one. — แพงเท่ากัน
  • She is not as tall as her sister. — ไม่สูงเท่า

ระวัง: ในโครง as...as ใช้คำรูปเดิม ไม่ผัน — ✗ as taller as

#วิธีฝึกให้ติดมือ

จำห้าคำผันพิเศษให้ขึ้นใจก่อน (better, worse, further, less, more) เพราะโผล่บ่อยกว่าคำปกติทั้งหมดรวมกัน จากนั้นกฎพยางค์จะเหลือแค่ คำถามเดียว: "คำนี้สั้นพอจะเติม -er ไหม?"
